1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
Description
Technology is an endless portal of information and resources. Teachers have the ability to "facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity" by introducing and connecting students with technology for educational purposes. Teachers have the opportunity to spark academic interests, create space for collaborative networking, and connect content standards with real-world issues. This allows students to create and engage in exploration, critical thinking, and creativity to present conceptual understanding of an assigned task.

Reflection
As a future teacher, it is imperative to have creative approaches to teaching. William Butler Yeats is quoted as saying "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." I agree with this quote but also would add that teaching should be the filling of a bucket AND the ignition of exploratory learning and creating. Teachers are no longer the sole bearer of all knowledge, rather they are now becoming facilitators of learning. Education should not be marked about WHAT students know, but rather HOW students apply that knowledge.
I created a class blog using WordPress this semester to create a cohesive tool with resources that can be constantly accessible to students. The blog is a space where students can connect, collaborate, and network in a facilitated environment. Additionally, it is an online tool where parents can stay informed about classroom announcements and upcoming student assignments.
I created an instructional video using iMovie as an example to demonstrate practical use of ratios. Instructional videos are generated to promote creative and innovative methods for a teacher to either teach or review content. This technology tool allows the opportunity for students to view videos and lessons repeatedly to either review or not fall behind if absent. I plan on filming more instructional videos in my future classroom because it allows math content to come to life, and go beyond the textbook and worksheets. Also, my fear of using iMovie is gone now so that is a huge plus!
TedEd Talks are a fun tool to have students explore their academic interests. TedEd Talks allow teachers to use the experts from the Ted Talk to inspire students to explore more academia, impact the world with their ideas, and/or learn something new in an interactive way. TedEd Talks are one of my personal favorites because there is a limitless number of videos available on numerous topics from US History and the newest discoveries in the deepest part of the ocean to personal enlightenment and growth.
This ISTE Standard is my favorite because the effectiveness of it reflects a teacher's passion. Again, it is no longer teachers sharing their knowledge with students, but rather, our society is evolving where teachers serve as guides to learning in a safe environment. The possibilities of an artist being creative are endless, so the creativity within education should be the same!
